Executive Team


Julian Travaglia - CEO

Julian’s career to date has spanned more than 25 years within the financial services industry.

Beginning at the National Bank of New Zealand (now ANZ), Julian worked in the retail branch network in Auckland and the Waikato in various roles ranging from home loans to rural lending and culminating in him becoming the youngest Commercial Banking Manager in the National Bank at the time of his appointment.

With his next move to AMP Financial Services, Julian held multiple positions including Assistant Regional Manager of the Mid-Northern Region, leader of specialist life insurance and superannuation technical support and training teams and he also managed the development and rollout of bespoke CRM and financial planning business tools to the nation-wide AMP adviser network. He spent the next three years revamping and leading AMP’s retail investment proposition before moving to Activa, the start-up subsidiary of Southern Cross Healthcare. Here he designed and managed the rollout of New Zealand’s first health management account via third party distribution networks throughout New Zealand.

Julian was brought on to the US-based multinational insurer AIG as part of the coveted world-wide Management Associate program which saw him based at AIG’s head office in New York for a three month period during the GFC in 2008. After graduating the program he enjoyed seven years working for AIG in New Zealand firstly as Head of the Consumer division of AIG and finally as Head of Client & Broker Distribution. He has now joined New Zealand Home Loans as the company’s Chief Executive Officer in October 2015.

Julian is married to Sarah, has twin boys and lives with his family in Hamilton.


Aaron Skilton - COO

Aaron joined the management team at New Zealand Home Loans’ head office in Hamilton in May 2016. A strong business and financial background made him the ideal candidate to take over the role of Chief Operating Officer from Phil Harris, who has been with NZHL for 16 years. Phil will continue in a consultancy role.

Aaron previously contracted specialist analysis and advice to NZHL’s management and board, particularly in relation to strategies to meet future financial advisory regulation. Previous roles held by Aaron include CEO of Greenstone Inc; Associate Director of Marsh Mercer Benefits as well as Senior Operations and Corporate Sales Management roles within Sovereign Assurance.

Aaron’s experience and existing knowledge of NZHL and its culture and operations mean our business will be well positioned to continue to grow and develop under his stewardship.


Chris Wong - Distribution Manager

Chris was born in Singapore and grew up in Auckland. He studied at Mount Albert Grammar and the University of Auckland before returning to Singapore at age 19 to complete a two year military service where he served as a Lieutenant in the Infantry.

Chris’ financial services career started at ANZ in 2008 when he took up a part time role as a teller before joining ANZ’s Graduate program. He held roles across Retail and Business Banking and achieved awards in Retail Top Achievers and CEO Recognition.

Moving across to the New Zealand Post Group in 2011, Chris was the Banking Channel Manager for Store Network. There he supported the delivery of Kiwibank banking services through Franchise and Corporate PostShops. He later relocated to the Hawke’s Bay as a Regional Sales and Service Manager leading the region to the top in his first year. In 2014, Chris joined Kiwibank as a Regional Manager leading the Retail proposition in the Central North Island.

In July 2016, Chris joined the New Zealand Home Loans family as Head of Distribution. He lives in Auckland with his fiancé Gemma.


Julienne Gibbs - Strategic Partnerships Manager

Julienne joined New Zealand Home Loans in 1998 after starting her career with one of the major trading banks before taking on other financial industry roles within New Zealand. She was schooled in the Waikato and also lived in Auckland but Julienne’s passion for travel has seen her spend a significant amount of time overseas. Her particular interest is to explore developing countries.

Away from her role with head office at New Zealand Home Loans, Julienne is a golfer, who also enjoys entertaining.


Todd Stephenson - Marketing Manager

Todd covered a number of countries before he joined the team at New Zealand Home Loans as their Marketing Manager in October 2012. He lived south of Auckland as a child but completed some of his high school years in California and Virginia when his family spent time in the United States of America.

Todd returned to New Zealand to earn a double degree from Otago University, securing both a BCom and a BA with majors in Marketing and Economics. His working career has included a marketing position with Hamilton-based aircraft manufacturer Pacific Aerospace before becoming the manager of Charter Services for Airlines PNG in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

Todd and his wife have been New Zealand Home Loans clients for three years, before he joined the team at head office.
The father of two young sons, Todd plays basketball and tennis while keeping an eye on the NBA and NFL, the professional basketball and American football leagues in the US.


Andrew Richardson - CTO (Chief Technology Officer)

Every office needs an Australian and Andrew’s sense of humour will be crucial as he cops gentle teasing from his colleagues at NZHL head office. Andrew arrived in 2015, having previously been the National Creative Director for a major media company (News Corp) and a global digital agency (Razorfish). He ran his own agency for the better part of a decade and is in the process of putting the things he has learned into a book titled Rethinking Digital Media.

The University of Sydney graduate has Fine Arts/Law qualifications specialising in English, psychology and philosophy. He attended university on a sporting and academic scholarship, as the varsity 100m and 200m sprint record holder and was a national champion and Olympic (Atlanta 1996) qualifier in the discipline. Andrew welcomes calls from clients and colleagues during the Bledisloe Cup season.

Support Team


Amanda France - Systems Administrator

Amanda has been part of the team at head office since May 2010, coming to New Zealand Home Loans with a 10-year background in team management and training and a further five years in office administration. She holds a Diploma in Business Management.

Amanda is from Rotorua and attended Rotorua Lakes High School before leaving the city as an 18-year-old to work and travel in various parts of New Zealand, Australia and Europe. She returned to Hamilton in 2010 and joined New Zealand Home Loans in May of that year. She holds a number of roles with the Fraser Tech Netball Club, including serving as their treasurer, a coach and a manager. She supports the Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic side in the trans-Tasman netball competition and also likes to follow Waikato and Chiefs


Emily Doran - Digital Marketing Specialist

Hamilton born and bred, Emily started with New Zealand Home Loans in 2008 after returning to New Zealand from living in Cork, Ireland. Prior to travelling overseas she earned a Bachelor of Management Studies majoring in Marketing and Communication at the University of Waikato.

Emily loves spending time with her family; husband John, young daughter Keeva and two cats, Bailey and Cashel. She also enjoys running, travelling, dining out and is partial to a good book and good wine.


Di Te Tamaki - Human Resources Manager

Di brings a vast amount of varied business experience to her position in New Zealand Home Loans. Te Aroha-born, she initially trained as a psychopaedic nurse before moving into sales, spending 10 years with Lion Nathan. That led to a role in sales training with Medic Aid and Aetna Health and then a consultancy career. For five years, Di provided advice and assistance in business development and personnel development for the likes of Sovereign, Tip Top, Fletchers, Zespri, Ernst and Young and Macraes Gold.

After a two-year stint as the general manager of a luxury lodge in the Bay of Islands, Di joined New Zealand Home Loans in 2002, developing the company’s client servicing team. Her current post sees her managing human resources and development for New Zealand Home Loans nationally.

Di is a devoted mum who fills any spare hours supporting her family from the sporting sidelines. Di’s family are all avid Waikato and Chiefs rugby followers. One of Di’s daughters owns a New Zealand Home Loans franchise with her husband and their three children are the apple of Di’s eye.


Georgina Waswo - Marketing and Events Coordinator

A temporary office position with NZHL Head Office in 2011 became Georgina’s full time job when she joined as a permanent staff member after devoting three years to earning a Bachelor of Media Arts degree majoring in Communications. Georgina says she appreciates working for a company that makes a positive difference to the lives of Kiwi families using user-friendly tools to put people in control of their own money.

Georgina has lived in Hamilton since 2009 and enjoys spending her spare time dining out with friends, travelling, hiking, and completing marathons (watching TV shows – not the running kind).


Jamie Teutenberg - Administration Assistant

Gisborne-born and bred, Jamie joined New Zealand Home Loans in the Hamilton head office in May 2012. Her role sees her in charge of accounts receivable, commissions and travel arrangements. Before coming to New Zealand Home Loans Jamie had five years of administration experience including three years in financial services. Her leisure interests include movies, cooking, baking and shopping.


Karen Hudson - Reporting Analyst

Karen has over 20 years of administration and analyst experience and a further five years as a systems analyst on her curriculum vitae. She holds a New Zealand Diploma in Business Studies and joined the New Zealand Home Loans team in January 2006.

A keen Waikato and Chiefs rugby follower, Karen returned to home base in this region after working in systems in Wellington. She is currently working towards accreditation as a Microsoft Specialist Expert.


Peter Yarranton - Media Development Manager

Peter is another international refugee who has found a home with New Zealand Home Loans. The Londoner migrated here with his family and joined New Zealand Home Loans in 2005. Previously, he had run a division and a team for Kodak, travelling the world to meet with other divisions and suppliers.

Peter has absorbed the culture here and barracks for the Chiefs and the All Blacks while he also enjoys running, skiing, music and cooking. He is also devoted to Apple technology and lives in Cambridge.


Rochelle Hill - Business Development Manager

Rochelle has a strong BDM background most recently with Kepa – The Advisers Institute and before that with TNP working with a panel of 137 independent advisers with business development, adviser development, training and management of key supplier relationships.

Prior to that Rochelle was a financial adviser herself specialising in the sale of risk products and advising clients on ways to utilise risk product to reduce their ACC levies. Other roles held by Rochelle include relationship management with major US-based financial services organisations while she was working in Dublin and also as Business Relationship Manager while she was with ACC working with the financial services industry, professional association bodies, SMEs and self-employed people to improve knowledge and customer satisfaction for ACCs B2B relationships.

Rochelle lives on the Bombay Hills and is based in the Hamilton office when she is not on the road (which is 80% of the week!) When not working she enjoys getting out on her Harley Davidson, walking her dog and spending time with family and friends.


Robert Fletcher - Analyst

Robert has been with New Zealand Home Loans for four years, after amassing more than 40 years of experience in the financial markets, banking and brokering.

Originally from Te Aroha, Robert has spent much of his professional career based in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, although he also worked in Auckland and Wellington. Hamilton has been his home for most of the past three decades.

Robert has a number of leisure interests including golf, fishing, music and spending as much time as possible at the beach and with friends and family.


Ross Knudsen - Systems Administrator

Ross returns to his Waikato roots, having been raised here attending Te Aroha College. He moved south to the Manawatu-Wairarapa regions to earn a degree from Massey University but has been back in the Waikato for the past 14 years. In that time, he worked in laboratories before making a more recent shift into the information technology field.

A father of four, three sons and a daughter, Ross is currently studying for a second degree, in Finance and Computer Science, skills that will mesh with his new role in Systems with New Zealand Home Loans.


Steve Garnett - Business Solutions Specialist

The City of the Future has brought Steve back home after an extended working holiday in Australia. Hamilton-born Steve spent most of his school years in Mount Maunganui before moving across the Tasman. He came home to study Information Technology and to start a family.

Steve’s work experience saw him lead Gen-I’s IT systems team for six years as part of a decade-and-a-half in the computer support industry.

A keen fisherman and hunter, who also enjoys golf and tennis, he joined the Head Office team as their Business Solutions Specialist.


Tanya Hone - Business Development Manager

Tanya has worked in the NZ financial services industry since 1986. She joined New Zealand Home Loans in 2009 after gathering well over two decades of financial services experience with a major trading bank.

During her career she has held a number of sales and leadership roles including Sales Coach, Learning and Development Manager and various Bank Manager positions.

Tanya’s current role allows her to work with a nationwide panel of our Business owners supporting them with their business aspirations and driving all aspects of their business growth and development plans.

Waikato born and bred, she lives on a rural property in Cambridge with her husband Terry.

In her spare time she loves to travel, spend time with friends and family, watch movies, go walking with her beloved dogs, and enjoy the great NZ outdoors.


Traci Bevan - Frontline Administrator

Traci describes herself as ``Waikato, through and through’’.  Born in Auckland, she moved to Cambridge with her family as a young girl and, apart from two years living in the UK, has spent her life in the Waikato district.
She attended Hillcrest High and then spent six years in admin and as a personal assistant in Harcourts branches in Cambridge, Matamata and Morrinsville. Traci is married to Paul and the couple have a daughter, Tyla, born in 2011. They are about to embark on renovations on their home, she loves cooking – especially Italian food - and the family enjoy attending Whangamata’s car festival, Beach Hop, each year.


Trudi Thirtle - Assistant Accountant

Trudi was born in the Bay of Plenty, brought up in South Waikato and Hamilton, and has lived in Wellington, London and Auckland before settling back in Hamilton to raise a family with her husband Robert.
She has completed a Bachelor of Business Analysis from Waikato University with a major in Accounting and has eight years’ experience in various accounting roles in NZ and UK. After taking time out to raise a young family is now returning to the work force.
Trudi has three children and enjoys supporting them in all their sporting, dancing and musical activities. In her free time she likes catching up with friends, watching movies and a good book.
